Policy for locating lottery winners

Gambling Commission did not have the information requested.

Good morning,

I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the freedom of information act.

In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my query as specifically as possible. If however this request is too wide or too unclear, I would be grateful if you could contact me as I understand that under the act you are required to advise and assist requesters.

I am requesting the following information:

I would like to be provided with any written policy or documents produced within the last two years for how the winners of any of the national lottery games are traced.

If written policy or documents have not been produced in the past two years please proceed with the request, instead providing this the most recent of documents available.

To clarify I wish to be provided documents which outline the official guidelines for how the Gambling Commission, or any of its bodies, locates the winners of games such as the Lotto or Set for Life.

Searching within the same time two year period I would like the Gambling Commission to also provide the following:

I) The number of winners that the Gambling Commission , or one of its bodies, had to take steps to trace. By this I mean where the prize was not claimed prior to steps being taken to find the winner.

II) I would like to also be provided the value of these prizes.

I understand that under the act I should be entitled to a response within 20 working days.

I would be grateful if you could confirm via email that you have received this request.

Thank you for your request which has been processed under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).

The Gambling Commission is responsible for licensing and regulating the National Lottery, ensuring the interests of participants are protected and maximising returns for Good Causes. Tracing or seeking to locate winners of National Lottery games is not within the remit of the Commission. This may be something that the operator of The National Lottery (Camelot UK Lotteries Ltd) seek to do as part of their procedures, therefore, the Gambling Commission does not hold the information requested.

You may wish to direct your enquires to the National Lottery directly, their contact details can be found on the website.

Review of the decision
