I am writing to ask for information concerning the application of your policy known as
NHS Grampian Policy And Staff Guidance On Patient And Informal
Carer Administration Of Subcutaneous Medication By Intermittent
Injection - Adult Palliative Care

The county in which I live is looking at the implementing a policy like this but there is some resistance on the grounds of patient safety. The specific information I am seeking is:

1. How many patients in the last 24 months have had their Just in Case / anticipatory medication administered under the policy ie by informal carers, in your area?

2. During the last 24 month period how many safeguarding alerts have there been in relation to patients where this policy is being used.

3. During the last 24 months has any patient been taken off the policy because of concerns about the carers ability to safely give sub-cut injections for just in case / anticipatory medication?

4. During the last 24 months have there been any Adverse Events recorded in relation to the use of this policy?

I am hoping that the information will support the county where I live in developing a policy by reducing the fears about this approach.
