Police Widows' Pensions

HM Treasury did not have the information requested.

Dear Her Majesty’s Treasury,

Question 1:

I would like to know how the revised estimates regarding the cost of lifelong pensions for all police widows in England and Wales covered by the 1987 Police Pension Scheme were arrived at.

Can you show me the methodology applied, and what figures were used to arrive at the estimate of £144m for those currently in receipt of the pension, and £54m for the reinstatement of pensions revoked due to remarriage or cohabitation?

Question 2:

I would also like to know how the original £50m (and apparently grossly inaccurate) estimate was arrived at i.e. £10m for current widows and £40m for future widows.

Question 3:

What is the cost to-date of the Amendments of 18th January 2016 to the 1987 Police Pension Scheme i.e. the cost of granting lifelong pensions to those widows still in receipt of a special or augmented pension by 1st April 2015?

Thank you in anticipation of your reply.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Cathryn L. Hall
Coordinator Police Widows' Pension Campaign
