Police National Computer data consistency

D McIntyre made this Freedom of Information request to National Policing Improvement Agency

The request was successful.

From: D McIntyre

Dear National Policing Improvement Agency,

This a FOI request around data consistency of nominal records maintained within the Police National Computer.

According to Appendix Two of the code of Practice for the Police National Computer [COP].

There are 11 mandatory fields on Arrest/Summons data to complete before an A/S reference number is generated.
The COP states the following fields have to be completed:

1. Process Stage
2. Process Stage Date
3. Fingerprints Taken Y/N
4. DNA Details
5. Name Charged
6. Arrest Date of Birth
7. Arresting Officer
8. ACPO Offence Code
9. Offence Start Date
10. Offence Location
11. Offence Location Description.

Can you please provide me copies of any guidance giving a complete definition of each field and its importance in maintaining data consistency within the PNC.

Can you please advise as to whether incorrect and/or missing fields would impact on the NPIA's ability to ensure that the correct information is held on the PNC to assist in Police investigatory purposes. Can you please provide guidance/research around this subject that NPIA may hold.

Can you also provide guidance/instructions that NPIA hold surrounding which data is mandatory to be filled in on a nominal record once it has been given an A/S reference number.

Yours faithfully,

D McIntyre
