Police force use of commercial genealogy databses

The request is waiting for clarification. If you are Adam Vaughan, please sign in to send a follow up message.

Dear police force FOI officer,
Please can you tell me if you have submitted any samples to (1) GEDmatch and (2) Family Tree DNA, either independently or through a US genetic genealogy service such as Parabon or through the genealogists who worked on the Golden State Killer case. I would like this request considered under FOI rules. Please advise if the request's scope needs narrowing to make it deliverable.
Yours faithfully,
Adam Vaughan

Fryar, Liz, North Yorkshire Police

Good afternoon,

I write with reference to your Freedom of Information request below and apologise for the length of time it has taken to respond to your request.

The Civil Disclosure Unit does strive to meet the 20 day deadline date, however the department deals with a variety of different work areas (not just Freedom of Information requests) and we have experienced a number of workload increases across the Unit. This increase has affected our processing and turnaround times and I can therefore only apologise again for the delay in your reply. As a result we are now reviewing the issues, which will hopefully assist in improving our overall compliance/response rates.

Due to the length of time that has passed since you submitted your request, could you please confirm whether or not you still require a response. If I do not hear from you within 20 working days of the date of this email I will assume that you no longer require the information and withdraw your request.

Kind Regards

Liz
