Police Disclosure in Family Court
Dear Children and Family Court Advisory Support Service,
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the general principles of the right to know I would like to request the following information likely from your intranet because Cafcass employees complete a lot of their training via e-learning
1. I would like to request copies of all course notes/guides/resources/handbook/powerpoints/ courses (however your organisation describes them internally) that relate to police disclosure in family court proceedings that involve Cafcass. As part of this, it should presumably include information relating to when a Cafcass employee should consider acquiring an Order from the Court for police disclosure
2. Subject: disclosure of police records in proceedings, I would like to request copies of all course notes/ guides/resources/handbook/powerpoints/ courses (however your organisation describes them internally) that assists in educating Cafcass employees on understanding terminology and interpreting data from police disclosure such as report logs and using it to make assessments particularly in s31 care proceedings and around whether to call a representative of the police force as a witness at a hearing to give evidence
3. Please provide any "Knowledge Bites" that were passed onto practitioners in the last 12 months that have relevance to the above numbered requests.
Yours faithfully,
Lorrette Mcvette

Dear Governance,
Thank you for your response which I feel partially completes my request for information.
I refer to Level 2 (Enhanced) Police Checks which is an enhanced police check is a request by Cafcass for the disclosure, and provision by Police, of any information held on the databases of a local force(s) including local intelligence, call out logs and domestic violence records.
A request to the local police force for enhanced information should only be made when a FCA determines, upon consideration of information received, that it is necessary to check with local force(s) whether additional information pertaining to one or more of the parties is held in order to provide the court with the information it needs to make an informed decision about how to deal with the case.
The decision to request an enhanced check is an exercise of professional judgment.

Please provide any document or material held by Cafcass that is relevant to the subject matter and available to be accessed by a FCA. This may be read by the FCA to assist them in exercising their professional judgement as to request Level 2 (enhanced) police checks in a case or not.
Yours sincerely,
Lorrette Mcvette
