Please send me the information Sussex Police hold on it's refusal to record complaints of crimes

Waiting for an internal review by Sussex Police of their handling of this request.

Dear Sussex Police,

I made a complaint of fraud to Sussex Police; their response was to tell me it was a 'civil matter', and they refused to record it. They misrecorded my report of crime.

Please send me the information Sussex Police hold on it's refusal to record complaints of crimes, and the steps Sussex Police has taken to recognise this as maladministration and to tackle it.

Yours faithfully,

keith gell

Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your request which was received by Sussex Police.

This request will be dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and you will receive a response within the statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Act, from the date of receipt. In some circumstances Sussex Police may be unable to achieve this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed and given a revised time-scale at the earliest opportunity.

Some requests may also require either full or partial transference to another public authority in order to answer your query in the fullest possible way. Again, you will be informed if this is the case.

Please Note:
Sussex Police are currently receiving a high volume of FOI requests at a time of reduced staffing levels to process them. Every effort is being made to comply with the statutory 20 working day response deadline but on occasions this may not be possible – we apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.

Yours sincerely

Sussex Police

Good Morning,

I would just like to clarify your FOI request received by Sussex Police.

Do you require the information of public complaints recorded OR the crimes that have been received in via 101 etc in which Sussex Police have refused to record as a crime?

Once clarification has been received, we will be able to continue with your FOI request.

I look forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Dear Sussex Police,

You ask: 'Do you require the information of public complaints recorded OR the crimes that have been received in via 101 etc in which Sussex Police have refused to record as a crime?'

When someone makes a complaint of a crime to Sussex Police, via 101; in person; or by the Sussex Police website, and Sussex Police choose not to record it as a crime because they don't wan't to record or investiagte it, when in fact it is a crime.

This was done to me on 2 ocassions when I made a complaint of fraud, and it has been the subject matter of a parliamentary invertigation: https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm...

The most infamous case of this is of course that of Shana Grice who was murdered for want of Sussex Police recording her crime: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_...

Knife crime is routinely under reported by sussex police: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-suss...
