Dear University of Bolton,

Please state

In the University's March 2018 'Gender pay gap report' it is stated 'Women are underrepresented within certain higher occupational role categorises……It would appear that there is evidence to suggest that women are not rising through the ranks and the University is not attracting suitably qualified women to some senior posts'. In light of this please state:

a) How many members of staff at the University of Bolton have been awarded Honorary Doctorates by the University and b) how many of these are women

How many women have been mentored and supported internally to gain Professorial roles

How the following Senior roles were advertised and what was the interview process (please state the extent to which equality policy was followed in each case):
• Provost of the School of Engineering
• University Executive Director (External Relations)
• Current Assistant Vice Chancellor roles (3 members of staff)
• Director of the Institute of Management

Yours faithfully,

Catherine Shaw

Dear Ms Shaw,

Thank you for your enquiry requesting information under Section 1(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the ‘Act’). Please find below the University’s response.

1. How many members of staff at the University of Bolton have been awarded Honorary Doctorates by the University and b) how many of these are women?

Please see the list of honorary doctorates available on the University website at: https://www.bolton.ac.uk/about/honorary-...

2. How many women have been mentored and supported internally to gain Professorial roles? In November 2016, the University introduced a three tier academic career track linked to the University’s Teaching Intensive Research Informed (TIRI) strategic agenda. Of the 13 academics who were appointed to the TIRI Professor roles within this new academic development and progression route five (5) were women.

3. How the following Senior roles were advertised and what was the interview process (please state the extent to which equality policy was followed in each case):

· Provost of the School of Engineering

· University Executive Director (External Relations)

· Current Assistant Vice Chancellor roles (3 members of staff)

· Director of the Institute of Management

The roles were recruited necessary by virtue of a competitive, internal recruitment process ring-fenced to senior management due to the senior skills expertise required.

We trust this addresses your enquiry.

If you are unhappy with the way that the University has handled your request, you may ask for an internal review. You can do this by return email requesting an internal review.

If we are unable to resolve your complaint to your satisfaction, you have the right under Section 50 of the Act to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
