Please inform us...How many people in the UK, in total, are currently placing land-based bets?
Dear Gambling Commission,
We need to know how many people in the UK, in total, are currently placing land-based bets? If you are unable to answer this question, then could you give us figures for previous years, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
We recently discovered that roughly 47,000 people, as of the end of quarter of 2023, have opted-in to self-excluded from land-based gambling (bookies, arcades, bingohalls, pubs etc) so thanks for that Information! but now we need to know how many people in total, in the uk, are placing land-based bets of all varieties re; sports, fobts, bingo etc. As I said.
This includes bets via bookies, arcades, bingohalls, pubs, service stations etc. These bets include counter-bets; dogs, horses, sport, etc. Slot-machine bets etc.
If we cant answer the question above, then really we are all just in the dark.
How can we solve a problem if we don't even know the extent of the problem. Surely to solve this, we first need to know the extent of the issue. For example...
If, I dunno, let's say 50,000,000 people are placing at least one land based bet per year, as an example, and then 47,000(ish)(as of 2023) have opted in to self-exclude then we have an idea of where we are and where we need to be heading.
I hope that makes logical sense.
It does.
We are all looking forward to your reply!
And we thank you for your service in this matter and welcome any and all support available in better understanding how to protect the most vulnerable in society whilst having the least impact of those who are able to gamble without harm.
Yours faithfully,
Samuel Badcock
