‘1. how many trees are being cut down on the runcorn side of the river
mersey for the approach to the new bridge?’

The extent of the trees /vegetation removed is not measured in terms of
the number of trees cut down but measured in terms of area of land cleared
in order to accommodate the project. The total area of trees/vegetation
cleared on the Runcorn side of the river is approximately 15.18Ha.  As we
are unable to distinguish between the exact numbers of trees removed on
each side of the river, you may find it helpful to know that the total
number of trees felled on both sides of the river is approximately 4,500.

‘2. how many trees are being cut down on the widnes side of the river
mersey for the approach to the new bridge?’

Again, as stated at 1. above, the extent of the trees /vegetation removed
is not measured in terms of the number of trees cut down but measured in
terms of area of land cleared in order to accommodate the project. The
total area of trees/vegetation cleared on the Widnes side of the river is
approximately 5.45Ha.  As we are unable to distinguish between the exact
numbers of trees removed on each side of the river, you may find it
helpful to know that the total number of trees felled on both sides of the
river is approximately 4,500.

‘3. how many trees in total have been cut down by mistake?’

Approximately 15.  This represents less than 0.33% of all felled trees.

‘4. are these trees going to be replaced one for one?’

There will be a programme of landscaping and reinstatement undertaken by
Merseylink (the preferred bidder).  These details will be developed in
detail after Financial Close.

‘5. where in the local area are they intended to be replaced?’

Please see response to Q.4.

‘6. have halton borough council started to replace the trees, if so what
is the location of them?’

Merseylink will be responsible for the programme of reinstatement, not
Halton Borough Council.  See response to Q.4.

‘7. if a replacement program has not commenced, when is it starting and at
what location?’

Please see response to Q.4.
