Planning permission rejections due to protected species in England

We're waiting for John Griffiths to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Kirklees Borough Council,

I'm writing to enquire about the following information in relation to your Local Planning Authority.

I would like to know:

• How many planning permission requests were received last year?
• How many planning permission requests were rejected last year?
• How many planning permission requests were rejected due to protected species?
• Of these, how many were rejected due to: badgers, bats, birds, dormice, newts, invertebrates, natterjack toads, otters, reptiles, water voles, white-clawed crayfish, or other?

I am writing in response to your request dated 11/04/2022. This has been
dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

 

The Council’s response to your specific questions is set out below:

 

• How many planning permission requests were received last year?

 

The number of planning applications received in the calendar year 2021 is
2819. This is for applications for planning permission and for variation /
removal of planning conditions only i.e. it does not include any other
applications e.g. listed building consent, advertisement consent, tree
works, prior approval, etc.

 

• How many planning permission requests were rejected last year?

 

The number of planning applications refused in the calendar year 2021 is
209.

 

• How many planning permission requests were rejected due to protected
species?

 

See below.

 

• Of these, how many were rejected due to: badgers, bats, birds, dormice,
newts, invertebrates, natterjack toads, otters, reptiles, water voles,
white-clawed crayfish, or other?

 

Attached is a list of those applications refused in 2021. The enquirer is

The decision notice will provide reasons for refusal including any ecology
grounds.
