Planning Application Documents (Listed Building)

Peter made this Freedom of Information request to Historic Environment Scotland

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Historic Environment Scotland,

I wish to request a copy of all documentation with regard to the alteration at Hunterston House in North Ayrshire in the mid to late 1990s.

The top floor of this listed building was altered for habitation and due to its listed status Historic Scotland should have been informed but on requesting information from the planning department of North Ayrshire Council there is no record of any alterations/Planning applications or any correspondence to and from Historic Scotland with regard to this.

As alterations were done to this listed building an application must have been made to Historic Scotland or at least communicated with, so am requesting any/all correspondence/documents you have with regard to this.

Yours faithfully,
Peter Wattingham

Dear Mr Wattingham

Thank you for your request for information, which has been passed to me to handle.

Before I proceed with your request, I wonder if you possibly confirm for me the building to which your request relates. There are two listed buildings in North Ayrshire with Hunterston in the title. I have included below a link to our listing details on each one. If you could take a moment to confirm that it is Hunterston House, rather than Hunterston Castle, which you are interested in (or indeed vice versa) then I will proceed to log and progress your request.

Many thanks

Thank you very much Peter.

Sorry to ask such an obvious question - the names of buildings have given us problems with requests like this in the past, so I like to be certain. In order to avoid delays and disappointment.

Please find attached my formal acknowledgement letter for your records.

Best wishes

Dear Murray V (Victoria),

As It seems no planning permission was sought to alter the listed building I wish to make a complaint to you about this as altering a listed building without consent is illegal.
Please inform the relevent department of this.

Yours sincerely,

Peter

Parsons D (Dara), Historic Environment Scotland

Dear Mr Wattingham

Thank you for your email to my colleague Victoria Murray.

North Ayrshire Council as planning Authority are responsible for
responding to reports of unauthorised works to Listed Buildings, and I
would suggest that you speak directly to the planning department there.  I
have provided a link below to the Council’s Planning Enforcement Charter,
which provides a helpful guide to the process.

If you would find it helpful, I would be happy to talk to you about our
role in listed building control, which does not extend to enforcement.
