Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

I would like to know the following

1) When THE PIP (Personal Independence Payment) is introduced, will
claimants having a PIP assessment be able to request their
assessment be recorded just as they are now when attending a WCA
assessment undertaken by Atos?

2)What type of machine is used to record assessments when the
equipment is provided by Atos or the DWP?

3)Who should the request for a WCA (Work Capability assessment)be
made to and to what department?

4)What experience & Qualifications will the people have conducting
the PIP(Personal Independence payment) assessments have and from
what professions will they be drawn from?

5)Are any CCTV recordings/tapes used in the decision making process
that are housed inside/outside the assessment centres that are
being conducted by Atos?

6)How many Atos HCPs have been prosecuted or fired due to making
false or fraudulent WCA (Work Capability assessment) reports with
regard to claimants?

Yours faithfully,

Paul Smith

Department for Work and Pensions

29 March 2012

Dear P Smith,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 24 February 2012
that was received by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Adelphi
that day and forwarded on 27 February for response by DWP Medical
Services Contracts Correspondence Team (MSCCT) Freedom of Information
Officer. I apologise for the delay in responding to you.

In your email you asked to be provided with information answering the
following questions:-

I am asking for an internal review because you have failed to answer
question 5?

5) Are any CCTV recordings/tapes used in the decision making process
that are housed inside/outside the assessment centres that are being
conducted by Atos?

The answer you gave does not answer my question, please read the
question again?

As Reviewing Officer, I have read your letter and accepted this as a
request for an Internal Review in order that I can check that the
information sent to you clearly and accurately answered your request. I
have therefore conducted a full investigation into your original request
and the information supplied to you. I have also reviewed any decisions
to withhold information and in doing so I have fully considered the
public interest in disclosure.

I note in the response dated 23 February 2012 (FOI 2840-334) that you
were advised that it is not a DWP requirement that an assessment for the
purpose of advising on entitlement to state sickness or disability
benefits is recorded on audio or video tape.

I can confirm that CCTV recordings/tapes, whether inside or outside the
Medical Assessment Centre are not used in the decision making process.

In reviewing your request I uphold the decision of the Freedom of
Information Officer and I am therefore satisfied now that all the
information that DWP are able to supply to you has been supplied.
If you have any queries about this letter please contact me quoting the
reference number above.
Yours sincerely,

DWP Central FoI Team
