Dear Ms Sollazzi,
Your information request – IR1-4509142781
Thank you for your email dated 17 July 2024 which I have considered under
the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
I have answered your questions as follows:
“Please confirm your statement today that PAs do not study medicine.
Please confirm, therefore, that PAs do not practice medicine.”
The FOIA provides for access to recorded information and we have not been
able to identify any recorded information that falls within the scope of
your request. You have asked us to 'confirm' these statements via a FOIA
request. However, the FOIA does not provide a route to obtain further
comment in this way. Therefore, if you would like recorded information,
you will need to be specific about what you require.
“Please confirm, therefore, that PAs are not medical professionals.”
The FOIA provides for access to recorded information and I can direct you
to a recent article on our website relating to the use of the term
'medical professionals':
[1]https://www.gmc-uk.org/news/news-archive....
However, you have asked us to 'confirm' these statements via a FOIA
request. The FOIA does not provide a route to obtain further comment in
this way. Therefore, if you would like other recorded information beyond
that linked to above you will need to be specific about what you require.
“Please advise the source of the funds you are using/will use to expand
your operations to include the registration of PAs and AAs.”
The GMC agreed to take on the regulation of PAs and AAs on the condition
that no additional costs would fall on doctor registrants. We invoice the
Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) for all costs arising from our
work on PAs and AAs. You can see these figures under the heading
‘restricted funds’ in our published annual accounts for [2]2020, [3]2021
and [4]2022. For a breakdown of our sources of income, please refer to
our [5]annual report and accounts.
Who to contact
If you would like to appeal my response, please set out your reasons in
writing to [6][GMC request email]. Please note that we will only usually
consider appeals received within 40 working days of our response. You can
also appeal to the [7]Information Commissioner, the regulator of the FOIA
and DPA.
