Personal protection equipment "PPE" for Police Community Support Officers

The request was successful.

Independent Police Support Group

Dear Home Office,

We have had enquiries from PCSOs concerning their personal safety. Their uniform so closely relates to police officers including the wearing of chequered hats that they are likely to be called upon whilst patrolling to deal with a violent incident or be targeted themselves.

PCSOs have the power to detain a suspect at present which itself can present risk to the officer.

1. What form of PPE is presently permitted for PCSOs to carry on duty.

2, Please provide copies of any relevant documents concerning consultations, reports and any other relevant documentation concerning any review of the personal protection equipment carried by PCSOs.

Yours faithfully,

Independent Police Support Group
