The request was successful.

Dear Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency,

Good evening,
I would like to get my husband a personalised number plate for Christmas. Could you give me the details of how I would accomplish this. Thank you

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mrs Carr-Field

Thank you for your email received on 21/11/16. Your email reference number
is 3971882.

There are millions of registration numbers available to purchase through
the DVLA Personalised Registrations website
www.dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk

The search boxes will help you find a registration number that interests
you. All prices quoted are fully inclusive of VAT and the £80 assignment
fee.

If your choice is available to purchase, click on ‘buy now’ and follow the
on-screen instructions to complete your purchase.

If you are unable to find your perfect registration or have a specific
request please contact us and we will try our best to help you with your
search. Registrations that are not currently available, but have never
been previously issued to vehicles may be offered for sale at a DVLA
auction.

The DVLA holds several auctions each year, containing up to 1500
registration numbers in each auction.

What happens once I have purchased a personalised registration number from
the DVLA?

For online purchases, you will receive an email confirmation of sale
within 24 hours, and a V750 Certificate of Entitlement will be posted to
the address you gave, which you should receive within two weeks. This is
your proof of entitlement and the application form to have the
registration number put onto a vehicle.

For auction purchases, you should receive the V750 Certificate of
Entitlement within 2 weeks after your payment has cleared.

You have until the expiry date shown on your certificate to assign the
number to a vehicle.

How to assign your registration number to a vehicle

In order to have a personalised registration number assigned to your
vehicle, the vehicle must be:

• an appropriate age to receive the registration number

• registered or about to be registered in mainland Great Britain in your
name or in the name of the Nominee

• currently taxed or will be taxed on assignment. If the vehicle does
require tax the application must be submitted with payment for vehicle
tax, Insurance Certificate if your vehicle is registered to a Northern
Ireland address (downloaded or faxed copies are acceptable, however
photocopies are not)and a filled in application form for tax V10

• of a testable type i.e. subject to annual testing either MOT/PCV or a
Goods Vehicle Test

If you have a brand new vehicle that has not yet been registered, ask the
vehicle dealer to register the vehicle with the new number. You will need
to give the dealer your V750 Certificate of Entitlement.

If the vehicle is already registered and has an existing registration
number, you can apply by post to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1DS to have the new
number assigned to the vehicle.

Complete section 1 on the V750 Certificate of Entitlement and send it with
the following documents:

• V5C Registration Certificate. If this is not available as the vehicle
has recently been purchased or transferred you can include the V5C/2 "new
keeper supplement", but this must be accompanied by an application for a
vehicle registration certificate V62

(the names on the V750 and V5C or V62 and V5C/2 must match) Please note
that if you are a new keeper you must tax immediately using the V5C/2
before you can drive or apply to transfer a registration number. You can
do this online at [1]www.gov.uk/vehicletax or by phone on 0300 1234 321.
New keepers resident in Northern Ireland must apply to their nearest Post
Office branch that deals with vehicle tax with the V5C/2, valid insurance
certificate or cover note, valid MOT (if applicable) and the fee for tax.

• the assignment fee of £80 (only if you purchased the registration number
prior to 1 May 1993)

You should receive a confirmation letter within 2 weeks.

Your updated V5C will be received within a following 6 weeks.

However, if you submitted an application for a vehicle registration
certificate (V62) you should receive your new V5C within 8 weeks.
