Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 4^th January 2019.

The information you have requested is as follows:

On 23 March 2018, then-Leader of the House Julie James AM announced
£440,000 of funding over the next two years and additional capital funding
of £700,000 for to local authorities to “tackle period poverty in their
communities where levels of deprivation are highest” with a view to
“ensuring that all girls and young women can access good sanitary
facilities when they need them.”

In relation to this over £1 million of funding made available to local
authorities, please answer:

1. Have you received any of this money?

Yes

1a.       Was this at your request?

No

1b.      How much money have you received from this particular budget and
what is your spend to date?

£17,044 Capital funding has been paid at the beginning of this financial
year, and this will be spent on investing in sanitary equipment and toilet
facilities in schools where needed.

1c.       What has the money been spent on, and where? 

The funding will be spent the purchase of feminine hygiene products for
young women in schools.

1d.      How many girls and young women have benefitted from your access
to this budget and in what way? 

The number of young women benefiting from access to this budget will be
known when the returns are completed at the end of March 2019 by each
school.

1e.       What is your projected total spend and budget narrative for this
budget?

£5,378 Revenue funding for  the purchase of feminine hygiene products for
young women and girls.  £17,044 Capital funding for investing in sanitary
equipment and necessary changes to toilet facilities in schools where
needed.

2.         If you haven’t received any of this money, what is the reason
for this?

WG has paid the Capital at the beginning of the year - £17,044.  The
revenue will be claimed at the end of the financial year

3.         How many girls and young women do you estimate experience
period poverty in your local authority? 

It is estimated that there are approximately 420 young women in Ceredigion

4.         Please detail any other specific measures you have taken to
tackle period poverty.

We do not have a specific measures to tackle period poverty, however, the
Authority does have the Combatting Poverty Strategy, where such issues are
raised including how foodbanks are contributing to the effort to combat
period poverty.
