Dear J Preosnz

TfL Ref: FOI-2400-1314

Thank you for your email which we received on 4 March 2014 asking for
salary and grade information for London Underground (LU) staff. Please
accept my sincere apologies for the delay in responding.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can
confirm we hold some of the information you require. You asked for the
following information:

How much (in both £ and % of annual costs) is spent on wages of London
Underground staff in total, as well as a breakdown of all the different
grades both operational and non operational London Underground Staff (e.g.
CSAs, SCRAs, SAMFs, Station Supervisors, DSMs, GSMs, Train Operators,
DTSMs, TOSMs, TOMs, Signal Operators, Service Control, Service Control
Managers etc).

Please find attached a table showing, as at Period 13 of 2013-14,
expenditure on wages for LU staff broken down by grade. These figures
include salary, higher duty pay and allowances. Please note that the
information provided is broken down by grade as requested and therefore
does not directly correlate with the job titles suggested in your
question, but this is how we hold it in our financial data set. The
categories you have listed as examples of grades are not grades that are
held in our reporting system. Please note where the number of employees,
who earn below £58,200, is lesser than 10, these figures have been
withheld under s40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act on the grounds
that they are likely to relate to a few individuals who could be
identified by their pay grade. Transport for London publishes details of
remuneration for senior staff earning more than £58,200 a year, but there
is no expectation that employees earning less than this amount will have
their salary published. Therefore we conclude that release of this
information would breach the first data protection principle of the Data
Protection Act 1998 as it would not be fair to the individuals concerned
and would not satisfy any of the criteria set out in Schedule 2 of that
Act.

Regarding information about the relationship between wages and other
costs, the pre audit forecast for 2013/14 annual total wages cost for LU
(including basic pay, overtime, allowances, employers NI, pension and
other employee payments) is £1,103m and this equates to 38% of the annual
forecast costs (operational and investment) for the same period.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
