Pension funds and research funding

I am seeking information about the value of the pension fund administered by your university, as well as the value of specific holdings and dividend income from those holdings.

In addition, I am seeking information about research funding your university receives.

1. What is the most recent available value of the pension fund your organisation administers?
2. What is the latest available value of the fund’s directly-held investment in shares or bonds of the following companies: BAE Systems, Raytheon, Airbus, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell.
3. What was the value of these holdings a year before the most recent valuation given above, or at the most recent previous valuation?
4. What dividend income and/or bond yield did the fund receive from these investments in the last 12-month period for which records are available?
5. Does the fund have any other investments in these companies via pooled investments? What is the value and dividend income from these investments?
6. The total amount, in pounds sterling, that you have received in research funding from these companies in the last five financial years. Details should be broken down for each company, year-by-year for the last five financial years.
7. The total amount, in pounds sterling, that you have has received in the form of industrial consultancy and industrial research fees from these companies in the last five financial years. Details should be broken down for each company, year-by-year for the last five financial years.

Your request will now be dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act
2000 and has been allocated reference FOI19-143 which should be quoted in

For ease of reference, I have reproduced your questions below and set out
our corresponding responses.

 

1.     What is the most recent available value of the pension fund your
organisation administers?

 

Details on the pensions schemes the University participate in can be found
in our Annual Reports and Financial Statements which are published on the
University’s website:

Different categories of staff are eligible to join one of five
different schemes:-

 

·         Universities’ Superannuation Scheme (USS)

·         Cardiff University Pension Fund (CUPF)

·         National Health Service Pension Scheme (NHSPS)

·         Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

·         NEST

 

Requests for details of Investments held by the above pension schemes need
to be directed to the Trustees of the scheme, as these funds are the
responsibility of the relevant Scheme Trustees and are not the
responsibility of Cardiff University.

 

2.     What is the latest available value of the fund’s directly-held
investment in shares or bonds of the following companies: BAE Systems,
Raytheon, Airbus, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Honeywell.
