Penalty fines to Biffa

Ian Lewis made this Freedom of Information request to Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

Please advise how many penalty fines and the value of those penalty fines have been imposed on Biffa for:

1. non-collection of household waste (all categories of waste)
2. failure to meet agreed standards for street cleansing

In both cases, for each year since 2010.

Yours faithfully,

Cllr Ian Lewis

Cllr Lewis, It seems to me that you have found probably the most advantageous method of extracting information from Wirral Council and it shows the public that you are indeed dealing with matters of public interest and acting on behalf of your constituents. It is such a shame that your fellow councillors have not realised that this particular web site is helping the public (in some cases anyway)get the answers they are entitled to.
If you are fobbed off like some of our fellow FOI requesters will you make a complaint to the ICO?

Ian Lewis left an annotation ()

Yes, I will. FoI should be the last resort but there only so many times you can keep asking but having phone calls, emails and conversations ignored.

Margaret Campbell left an annotation ()

But of course, under the Freedom of Information Act, the council has a duty to respond to ANY written request for information - you do not have to even mention the Freedom of Information Act.

Ian Lewis left an annotation ()

Thanks Margaret, in a 'normal' organisation that would be the case but, at Wirral Borough Council, the 'abnormal is normal' and, as we saw with Fernbank Farm, just because people phone/email/write, it doesn't mean anyone has the decency to respond.

Open & transparent they are not re the Fern bank farm debacle neither are they honest & with bullyboy tactics
they think they can get away with it& often do.
As for your position you should be proud that you are probably the only councillor who is not milking the system by not claiming expenses & whilst I am not a political animal I take my hat off to you for sticking up for the people who elected you, keep it up.

Cllr Lewis, your honesty is refreshing and I couldnt agree more with John so keep up the good work....i Hope your constituents appreciate your work.
