Peerages held overseas

The request was successful.

Dear Ministry of Justice,
FAO the Crown Office

Please provide me with the following information:

1. How many registered hereditary peerages, as in those recorded as currently being held to the satisfaction of the Crown Office (and listed on the Roll of the Peerage), are currently held by people not resident in Britain?

2. If possible, please list the titles and the country of residence of those said hereditary peers. It is not necessary for you to provide protected personal information or any more detail than the country.

3. Is any holder of a registered hereditary peerage, as in those recorded as currently being held to the satisfaction of the Crown Office (and listed on the Roll of the Peerage/Register of Hereditary Peers), entitled to British citizenship if not already held?

Yours faithfully,

Ned Donovan

Dear Mr Bavister,

Thank you for this information. I promise this was the last boring request I will send you for some time.

Yours sincerely,

Ned Donovan

Dear Mr Donovan,

Its not a great problem; the FOI process is remarkably bureaucratic and time consuming, at least from my end. If you ever want information in the area which I deal with, ie. matters Royal, hereditary, Crown appointments or ecclesiastical, try dropping me a line first and if I can provide the information you want I will be happy to do so, if I feel I cannot I will say so, then do of course go down the FOI route - generally, much of what I do, once it is concluded, should be or can be placed in the public domain, although some of the Royal business may be more difficult. Just an idea.

With best wishes,

Grant Bavister
