Pedestrian Crossings

Evan Howle made this Freedom of Information request to Kirklees Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

We're waiting for Evan Howle to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Kirklees Borough Council,

I am looking into finding out about the location of pedestrian crossings in Kirklees Council. Please could you provide me with the following:

1) A list of all the different pedestrian crossings within Kirklees Council boundaries. Including the location of all formal crossings: Zebra, Toucan, Pegasus, Staggered Pelican/Puffin and Toucan crossings.

2) Information on the type of tactile paving used at each site.

3) A list of all lowered kerbs in the Kirklees Council district. Showing the location of each and paying particular attention to the ones intended for use as pedestrian crossing points.

4) The above would ideally include the use of the Geocoordinate system information of each site, but also the street name and location.

The information will be used to provide a complete map of the District to aid in the navigation of Kirklees Council for people with limited mobility or requiring the use of a wheelchair.

Yours faithfully,

Evan Howle

Freedom Info, Kirklees Borough Council

Dear Mr Howle

I am writing in response to your request dated 17 November 2018. This has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

The Council’s response is set out below:

I am looking into finding out about the location of pedestrian crossings in Kirklees Council. Please could you provide me with the following:

1) A list of all the different pedestrian crossings within Kirklees Council boundaries. Including the location of all formal crossings: Zebra, Toucan, Pegasus, Staggered Pelican/Puffin and Toucan crossings.

See attached documents showing all crossings identified (Puffin / Toucan / Single / Staggered / Zebra)

2) Information on the type of tactile paving used at each site.

Tactile paving is as per national guidelines

3) A list of all lowered kerbs in the Kirklees Council district. Showing the location of each and paying particular attention to the ones intended for use as pedestrian crossing points.

We do not hold this information

4) The above would ideally include the use of the Geocoordinate system information of each site, but also the street name and location.

For the pedestrian crossing both post code and eastings and northings provided. For zebra crossing there are eastings and northings only.

The information will be used to provide a complete map of the District to aid in the navigation of Kirklees Council for people with limited mobility or requiring the use of a wheelchair.
Please note that the locations are an approximation and we cannot guarantee accuracy of the data once is appears on the map as post codes relate to businesses and residential properties and not locations of pedestrian crossings as they do not have post codes.

If you are not content with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Requests for internal reviews should be submitted within 2 months of the date of receipt of the response to your original request and should be addressed to the Monitoring Officer, 1st Floor, Civic Centre 3, Market Street, Huddersfield HD1 2EY. Alternatively, you can send an email to: [email address].

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are not content with the outcome of any review you have the right under section 50 of the 2000 Act to apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision as to whether your request for information has been dealt with in accordance with the requirements of the Act. The Information Commissioner’s website is at www.ico.org.uk and gives more information about the role and duties of the Commissioner. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
