Pedestrian Crossing Information
Dear Sir or Madam,It is obvious for reasons of safety that the pedestrian crossings `controlled area` should have high standards, but I am confused as to what is considered `best practice`and what is `essential`.
QUESTION 1.The `controlled area` is marked by zigzag edge-markings.A bus lane is marked by a solid white line on the right side. Why is it necessary for the white line to convert to zigzag through the `controlled area`and are exemptions allowed for low speed roads?
QUESTION 2.Sometimes the white lines get very faded. What standards apply to assess when repainting is necessary and the issue should be reported?
QUESTION 3.Is it allowed to have other markings such as directional arrows, speed camera calibration markings or `slow` on the road surface within the controlled area.
QUESTION 4.If the 95% traffic speeds approaching a pedestrian crossing exceed 40mph should the crossing be treated to the higher standards of a `high speed road` and have advisory signs or road markings on approach and, if so,what would be appropriate? I would appreciate clear answers to the above queries clarifying the differences between the `best practices` and the `legal requirements`.
Yours faithfully, Dennis J.Fallon
