pearl unit

The request was partially successful.

Dear Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust,

Recently, I was moved to pearl unit in Manchester Royal Infirmary after 3 hours wait in A&E to see someone from the mental health team. I was told the move was to do with the government's 4 hours waiting time in A&E.

I managed to speak to someone after 6 hours of gruesome waiting and I was admitted to pearl unit then. I was told I can only stay there up to 18 hours and therefore there is no shower within the unit. I ended up staying there for 3 days without a wash before discharged to Crisis Point.

1)I would like a copy of the operational policy for this unit.
2)In 2009, what is the average length of stay for patients admitted to pearl unit in 2009?
3)Considering my recent stay of 3 days, I would like to know how many more patients stay more than 18 hours over the year of 2009. What is the percentage of these patients over the total number of admissions to pearl unit?
4)In 2009, how many patients were moved to pearl unit after 3-4 hours waiting in A&Es?
5)Is one of the purpose of pearl unit to avoid the 4 hours breach in A&E?
6)Why is there no shower facility in pearl unit?

Many thanks

Yours faithfully,

David
