The camera on the Oxford Street junction with Ditchling Road is not temporary but is in place to improve compliance with the regulations. It was installed following complaints from the bus company and residents that the bus lane was not being enforced resulting in delays for passengers. Additional signage was placed along Ditchling Road in November and to date 1,250 Penalty Charge Notices have been issued at this location.

87 of these vehicles have been issued with more than one Penalty Charge Notice in total.

Appeals are assessed on their merits and information is not recorded in this way on our system. Compliance with the bus lane has however improved dramatically over recent month since the additional signage was installed. The council is satisfied that these signs comply with Department for Transport guidelines and are sufficient to warn drivers of the marked bus lane in Oxford Street.

Additional signage was installed in November to provide advanced notice of the bus lane and to compliment the road signage already in place. The council has to comply with Department for Transport regulations regarding on street signage.
