Payments Made to Claimants Whose Vehicles are Damaged by Road Defects

I write to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 requesting figures relating to the number of claims made to Essex County Council in relation to pothole related vehicle damage.

For the years 2018 to 2023 inclusive, please could you send over the following information:

- The number of claims made by motorists to Essex County Council after road defects damaged their vehicles

- The number of claims which were accepted or resulted in pay-outs by Essex County Council

- The total amount of money paid out to motorists whose claims to Essex County Council following pothole related defects were successful

Apologies, please would you be able to also provide a breakdown of the same data but for each year. I.e.:

The number of claims made by motorists to Essex County Council after road defects damaged their vehicles in the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

The number of claims which were accepted or resulted in pay-outs by Essex County Council in the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

The total amount of money paid out to motorists whose claims to Essex County Council following pothole related defects were successful in the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
