Dear North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust's handling of my FOI request 'Paying patients'.

The response does not show that the Trust is not using NHS monies to subsidise private work.
It is fundamental that Trusts are able to demonstrate that an overall profit is made against actual cost ( reference costs).

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/p...

Yours faithfully,

Dear B Hill

Thank you for your email dated 04/06/19 regarding your Freedom of
Information request – FOI 2019 – 417 relating to ‘paying patients’.

We contacted the relevant department and have received the following
clarification:

The Trust does not measure the profit margin on all private patient income
that goes back into NHS Care however works to ensure that there is
appropriate assurance for the overall profitability of private
activity.  The provision of private healthcare arrangements is governed by
the Trust's Private Patient Policy which support requirement private
practice not to be subsidised by or interfere with the treatment of NHS
patients.

Peterborough City Hospital

Private patient costing is linked to agreed NHS Tariff costs, with a
percentage uplift in addition to this. NHS Tariff is set based on the cost
of delivering care. In addition, consultant fees are not funded by the
Trust. NWAFT can therefore evidence that this delivers additional income
to the Trust.

Hinchingbrooke

Private patient costs are set to ensure that these generates additional
income for the Trust. All costs cover the direct treatment cost and
running costs of the service.
