Paying Parent Mortality Data
Dear Child Maintenance Service,
You have already fullfilled or partly fullfilled requests that are related to this one, under the following references:
1. FOI 2020/66419
2. FOI2021/00527/01288
Please could you confirm the following related to the 2nd FOI listed above.
1. The figures you have provided for paying parents in arrears seem to conflict with the figures in your quarterly reporting, in sept 2019 for example it states that 289k paying parents were in arrears, which is out of a total of 427,900 according to quarterly reporting, which is 68% of paying parents marked as being in arrears. However in your quarterly reporting it states that you have 68% compliance, so the data sets are contradictory to one another and suggest an error has been made in one or other. Please can you confirm whether the data you have provided in this FOI is therefore correct, and if not please explain the error and provide the corrected data?
2. Please can you provide the same mortality data referenced in the first FOI listed above, but group it differently to the previous request made, for the same time period of September 2017 to June 2020 - as follows:
a) Total Paying Parents who were on Direct Pay at the time of their death.
b) Total Paying Paying Parents who were on any of the variants of Collect & Pay at the time of their death (to include DEO, DER and any other variant).
c) Total Paying Parents who were on Direct Pay but and also had arrears in the month before their death.
d) Total paying parents who were on any form of Collect & Pay and also had arreas in the month before their death.
Yours faithfully,
Brian Hudson

Dear Child Maintenance Service,
Thank you for your response, I would like to refine my request as follows:
1. Referring to FOI2021/00527/01288, where the data table 1 provides a monthly count of parental deaths where there are arrears in the month prior to death, split between male/female/other, please subdivide this table into two tables. The first table should be parents who had an ongoing liability to pay, the other table should be parents with no ongoing liability to pay.
2. Please carry this same data table forward to bring it up to date with the latest available records.
Note, if it is not possible to bring the table up to date without breaching the cost limit, please just focus on point 1 to complete the request.
Yours faithfully,
Brian Hudson

Dear Child Maintenance Service,
Please could you provide the relative population sizes for table 1 and the same for table 2 by month and by gender. Alternatively could you point me to information that states the % of your stated cases that have ongoing liability to pay versus those that do not have ongoing liability to pay so that I can calculate for myself.
Yours faithfully,
Brian Hudson
