Dear Peter

Freedom of Information Request ENQ-463915-H3S2D0

I refer to your request for information dated 26 February 2021.

You asked for:

 1. How much is a retained fire fighter paid for being “on-call” per hour?

Our response:

There is an annual retainer for being available on-call.

The current retainer rates are:

o Development Firefighter = £2,483.00 per annum
o Competent Firefighter = £3,177.00 per annum

They are then paid at the hourly rate below for any actual emergency
calls, or other work activity required to be undertaken.

 2. How much is a retainer firefighter paid to attend a “call” per hour?

Our response:

The current hourly rates of pay are:

o Development Firefighter = £11.34 per hour
o Competent Firefighter = £14.51 per hour

The initial call also attracts a single ‘disturbance’ payment currently
£4.18

 3. Please provide the NFRS policy on pay and allowances relating to
retained fire fighters.

Our response:

NFRS policy is in accordance with the National Joint Council For Local
Authority Fire and Rescue Services’ Scheme of Conditions of Service, known
as “The Grey Book” which can be accessed via the internet.
