Patwan
Dear Department for International Development,
Please could I see all documents and correspondence relating to strategic communication during Op Patwin or the intervention during Typhoon Haiyan. In particular I would like to see any documents and communications with the strategic communications companies contracted, including proposals, final reports and how much they were paid. The Typhoon took place during the month of November 2013.
Yours faithfully,
Dr Emma L Briant

Dear Department for International Development,
I am writing in response to your message today claiming that my request would be too large (!) and asking that I narrow my request within a 3 month time frame, which is a longer period than I had originally requested - this is outrageous. Particularly as I specified in my original request that the operation is "during the month of November 2013". If anything, it seems that you are saying it might be possible to expand beyond the scope of the original ONE MONTH I requested you to examine. Therefore, I would be very grateful therefore if you would do this and instead of looking for one month please expand this to November-December.
Yours faithfully,
Dr Emma L Briant

Dear Department for International Development,
It seems like you are treating this as a new request. However, I am merely asking you to deliver the original request, which was entirely within the scope you have told me it was possible for you to fulfill. And which therefore has been rejected without good grounds. Therefore I would also appreciate you conducting an internal review.
Yours faithfully,
Dr Emma L Briant
Dear Dr Briant,

I would like to confirm that this will now be passed to a DFID official

an investigation of the handling of your request.

OFFICIAL
Dear Dr Briant,
I am processing your FOI request and I apologise that I did not realise that your original FOI request sought information for only a one month period. We will get back to you soon with our response to your Internal Review request.
I attach your original request and our response for ease of reference. We did, as set out in the attached response check our electronic filing system and a large amount of documentation was found which would have exceeded the FOI cost limit. To ensure we now process your request correctly can I clarify if your new request seeks only documents and communications with the strategic communications companies or if you seek all documents and correspondence held on our systems relating to strategic communication during Op Patwin or the intervention during Typhoon Haiyan for the period Nov - Dec 2013.
Yours sincerely

Dear Ms Marshall,
Thank you very much indeed for your response to my last emails. I can appreciate this was a misunderstanding and I appreciate you offering me the chance to clarify this for you. For the time period I would be very grateful if you could just focus specifically on the strategic communication companies which are the primary focus of my inquiry, including proposals, final reports and how much they were paid.
Please do let me know if I can help any further or answer any other questions that would help you in this search.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Emma L Briant
