Dear Malcolm

I refer to your request for information under the provisions of the
Freedom of Information Act.  We are able to provide the following
information:

Information requested Trust response
I would like information on the use 93 patients – equivalent to 0.02%.
of private taxis to convey patients
to care facilities within the past
12 months
To put these figures in context, the
  Trust responds to over 900,000
incidents a year.
1. How many patients (total number
and percentage) were referred to the
taxi service following face-to-face
assessment? Please note the Trust has deemed that
where a patient is clinically
suitable to travel in a Taxi, a Trust
approved Taxi may be organised by a
Clinical Hub Clinician to avoid the
use of a front-line resource. A
patient is suitable if they comply
with the following criteria:

- No requirement for clinical
intervention or supervision

- Able to sit in a car and transfer
in and out of a car with minimal
assistance

- All other options e.g.
self-conveyance or relative/friend
assistance have been exhausted

2. How many patients (total number 861 patients – equivalent to 0.17%.
and percentage) were referred to the
taxi service following remote
assessment by a clinician in the
clinical contact centre or similar? As this low figure demonstrates,
conveyance by taxi is not a decision
taken lightly by the Trust, and is
only considered where a robust
‘triage’ of a patient’s condition has
taken place to determine their
clinical suitability.

2a. Of those referred by the CCC, 2 patients – equivalent to 0.02% of
how many were following a GP/HCP all HCP requests for transport.

number and percentage of all GP/HCP
admissions)?
3. What is the overall total number 954 patients.
of patients conveyed by taxi
4. What is the overall percentage of 0.19%.
