Patient Complaints

The request was partially successful.

Dear General Pharmaceutical Council,

Quite a few medications now seem to be restricted by manufacturers/ wholesalers on quota - i.e. the pharmacy may only receive a fixed amount per month.

I was wondering if the GPHC has received any complaints from members of the public with regard to pharmacists being unable to supply their medication?

I realise these complaints would be unlikely to be forwarded to an FTP committee as in many cases it is out of the pharmacists control, but the data if held may provide an insight into the extend of the problem.

If possible could this be provided for the last calendar year?

Yours faithfully,

Leon O'Hagan

Dear General Pharmaceutical Council,

It seems that the response to this FOI request has been delayed. By law it should have been acknowledged and replied to by 7th Feb.

Please can someone look into my request and respond promptly.

Yours faithfully,

Leon O'Hagan

Dear Mr O'Hagan,

First of all, please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to
you. I can confirm that we have received seven complaints over the last
calendar year relating to the supply of medication that are recorded in
our electronic filing system. However, this is not a complete picture as
this type of complaint is usually directed to our investigations team in
paper format. The time required to differentiate supply complaints from
all other complaints over a 12-month period would exceed the amount of
time we can dedicate to a single Freedom of Information query under
Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act, and we are therefore unable
to provide further information for this reason.

If for any reason you are unhappy with the way your request for
information has been handled, or the information that has been provided,
you can request a review by writing to:
