Our Reference: EIR/1497/2023

Dear M Johnson

Request for information

We write further to your request for information dated 22nd May 2023,
which we have been considering under
the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

We can confirm that we are able to provide volumetric data for  the  final
effluent discharge from Heswall WwTW for the period requested. The flow
data provided is the measured total daily volume (TDV) which represents
the volume of treated effluent discharged from the treatment works over a
24-hour period. To monitor this, we utilise on site flow monitoring
located at the final effluent. If a 24-hour period has less than 90% of
expected readings, then the TDV for that period is noted as “NA”.

We are also permitted to discharge flow from our storm overflow however we
do not hold volumetric data for these intermittent discharges. The
discharges from our storm overflows are however measured using event
duration monitors (EDM)  which records the number and duration of storm
discharge Event Duration Monitoring (EDM) which is a regulatory
requirement to monitor the frequency and duration of intermittent sewage
discharges such as storm overflows  (SO), sewage pumping stations (SPS)
and sewage treatment works (STW) storm tanks.

Further Information on the 12/24-hour counting method can be found on
Environmental Agency website:

[1]https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...

If you would like to see the EDM data for Heswall WwTW, we publish our EDM
data annually which you can find here:

[2]https://corporate.dwrcymru.com/en/commun...

We are also able to provide data for specific periods if requested.

We hope that this response is clear. Should you have any questions, please
contact us on email [3][email address]

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within 40 working days of the date of receipt of this response
and should be addressed to Company Secretary, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water Linea,
Fortran Road, St. Mellons, Cardiff, Wales, CF3 0LT.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision.

Yours faithfully
