Parliament Annunciator

The request was partially successful.

Dear House of Lords,

under the Freedom of Information Act I would like to receive more information about the internal system known as "the Annunciator".

Specifically, I would like to know:

1. the history of the Annunciator: when it was first implemented, by who, how it has evolved, what is the estimated cost of building and maintaining it

2. what is the technical structure of the system: what are its components (servers, clients, displays) and how they are interconnected

3. what sort of procedure is in place to update the system: how many people concur to entering the information and by what means

4. if the Annunciator is internally maintained, or if it's procured from an external supplier; in this case, who is this supplier and what kind contract is in place, together with financial details

5. if the content of the Annunciator can be made Open Data; in other words, if both the real-time status and an historical archive could be released under the Open Government Licence (or other similar licensing agreement)

6. if the Annunciator TV Screen that was at St Stephen's Tavern, 10 Bridge Street, Westminster, has been permanently removed upon request of the House of Lords and if this is going to be re-instated

7. if there are any rules allowing other private businesses to apply to be connected to the Annunciator system through a TV link as it was for St Stephen's Tavern.

Be aware that a similar FOI request has been presented to the House of Commons, too, in the assumption there are two separate systems.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,
Giuseppe Sollazzo

HOL FOI & Information Compliance, House of Lords

Dear Mr.  Sollazzo,

I am writing in response to your request to the House of Lords.

The annunciator system serves both Houses and the answers provided by the
House of Commons at:

[1]https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/p...
also apply to the House of Lords.

The only additional information we have is under 3) and is as follows:

In the House of Lords the updating of the content is undertaken by the
doorkeepers.  Most doorkeepers are trained to use the annunciator.  They
rotate through a series of duties and there is one doorkeeper assigned to
operate the system whilst the House is in session.

I hope this is helpful.

You may, if dissatisfied with the treatment of your request for
information, ask the House of Lords to conduct an internal review.
Requests for an internal review should be addressed to
[2][email address] or to the Freedom of Information Officer, House
of Lords, London SW1A 0PW, and set out the nature of your complaint.
Arrangements will be made for someone who has not been involved in dealing
with your request to conduct an internal review. Our aim is to complete
internal reviews within 20 working days.

If, following this review, you remain dissatisfied with the House’s
treatment of your request for information then you may take your complaint
to the Information Commissioner at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire. SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely,

Frances Grey
