Paper costs and carbon footprint reduction targets

We're waiting for A R Shaw to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Waltham Forest Borough Council,

I am currently compiling data on the cost to both the environment and expenditure on the use of paper.

I would be grateful if you can give me information on the following:

1) The total amount of reams of paper used by the authority in the last 12 months
2) The amount of expenditure on printing, photocopying, and consumables for internal purposes. We are not interested in the amount of expenditure for printing of publications for external use.
3) The amount of recycling of paper from your offices.
4) Does the local authority have a target to reduce the use of paper - if so what is the current progress?
5) Does the local authority have a target to reduce their carbon footprint - if so what is the current progress?

Yours faithfully,

A R Shaw

Re: FOI Response FOI69097280 "Freedom of Information request - Paper costs
and carbon footprint reduction targets".

Dear A R Shaw,

I am writing to confirm that the Council has now completed its search for
the information which you requested on 28th February 2018 about Freedom of
Information request - Paper costs and carbon footprint reduction targets.

The information supplied has been provided by the department responsible
for the service delivery.

The information supplied to you continues to be protected by the
Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. You are free to use it for your
own purposes, including any non-commercial research you are doing and for
the purposes of news reporting. Any other reuse, for example commercial
publication, would require the permission of the copyright holder.

Here are the responses:

 1. A4: 197 boxes (5 reams per box) = 9,880 reams. A3: 80 boxes (5 reams
per box)= 400 reams.
 2. Total Expenditure 17-18 on printing, photocopying, and consumables for
internal purposes is £ 185,976.82.
 3. In common with the household collections, dry recycling (paper,
cardboard, glass, plastic, metal) from Council offices are collected
so it is not possible to provide a figure for the amount of paper
recycled.
 4. Our Authority does not have a target to reduced paper, however we have
seen a fall in the use of paper by cost from 16-17 to 17-18.
 5. This is our second three year “Climate Local” Action Plan and covers
the period from 2018 to 2021. This contributes towards delivery of the
Waltham Forest Climate Change Strategy target of an 80% reduction in
carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2050. We monitor our performance
against these actions and report regularly on our progress.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to request a review of our decision, you should contact
us via e-mail at:[1][email address] or by post:

The London Borough of Waltham Forest
The Information Officer
Town Hall
Forest Road
London

Please remember to quote the reference number FOI69097280 in any future
communications.

If you are not content with the outcome your review, you may apply
directly to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for a decision.
Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the
complaints procedure provided by the Council.

Kind regards,
The Information Officer
