Paper costs and carbon footprint reduction targets

The request was successful.

Dear Rushcliffe Borough Council,

I am currently compiling data on the cost to both the environment and expenditure on the use of paper.

I would be grateful if you can give me information on the following:

1) The total amount of reams of paper used by the authority in the last 12 months
2) The amount of expenditure on printing, photocopying, and consumables for internal purposes. We are not interested in the amount of expenditure for printing of publications for external use.
3) The amount of recycling of paper from your offices.
4) Does the local authority have a target to reduce the use of paper - if so what is the current progress?
5) Does the local authority have a target to reduce their carbon footprint - if so what is the current progress?

Yours faithfully,

A R Shaw

Clare Asti, Rushcliffe Borough Council

Dear Mr Shaw,

I refer to your Freedom of Information request dated 1 February 2018.
Please see our replies set out as follows:-

1) The total amount of reams of paper used by the authority in the last 12
months

Answer: We have used 1820 reams of paper over the last 12 months

2) The amount of expenditure on printing, photocopying, and consumables
for internal purposes. We are not interested in the amount of expenditure
for printing of publications for external use.

Answer:- Between 1st April 2017 until 1st February 2018, the current spend
on printing, photocopying, and consumables for internal purposes is
£18,000 approximately.

3) The amount of recycling of paper from your offices.

Answer:- We do not have that data as the bins are not individually weighed
and the waste including paper, card, cans and plastic bottles is
collected, mixed and then put in a vehicle with other similar waste
collected from across the Borough.

4) Does the local authority have a target to reduce the use of paper - if
so what is the current progress?

Answer:- The authority does not have a target for reducing paper use.

5) Does the local authority have a target to reduce their carbon footprint
- if so what is the current progress?

Answer:- The authority does not have a numerical target for reducing its
carbon footprint, however it does have a strategy and action plan, which
is available online at  [1]http://www.rushcliffe.gov.uk/energy/

along with Greenhouse Gas Emission Reports, the latest available is
2015/16.

Kind Regards
