Dear Rhondda Cynon Taff Council,

I am currently compiling data on the cost to both the environment and expenditure on the use of paper.

3) The amount of recycling of paper from your offices.
4) Does the local authority have a target to reduce the use of paper - if so what is the current progress?

Dear Mr Shaw,

Further to your Freedom of Information Request below, in order for us to
provide you with the correct information, in relation to question 2,
please could you clarify whether you require just the total cost of paper
associated with internal printing, photocopying and consumables or do you

Dear A R Shaw,

We refer to your Freedom of Information Request in respect of the
questions below regarding the cost to both the environment and expenditure
on the use of paper, the Authority’s response is as follows:

1)    The total amount of reams of paper used by the authority in the last
12 months

The value for 16 / 17 (last ‘ full ’ financial year ) totals at  : £
32,860.19 – all from the contracted supplier Springfield Papers.

2)    The amount of expenditure on printing, photocopying, and consumables
for internal purposes. We are not interested in the amount of expenditure
for printing of publications for external use.

Unfortunately, we are unable to supply the information for this part of
your request.  It is not possible to provide the amount of expenditure on
printing, photocopying, and consumables for internal purposes.  This
information is not recorded in a way that allows an electronic extraction
and would require each and every record to be reviewed manually.
Therefore the total costs of providing the information to this part of
your request will exceed the “appropriate limit” as stated in the Freedom
of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees)
Regulations 2004.

Accordingly, in accordance with Section 17 of the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 ("the Act") this e-mail acts as a Refusal Notice to that part of
your request.

3)    The amount of recycling of paper from your offices.

Over the last 12 months the Authority has had 65 skips lifts totalling
101.42 tonnes of paper collected from the Authority’s main paper recycling
bay.

4)    Does the local authority have a target to reduce the use of paper -
if so what is the current progress?

No direct target but digital initiates are underway for both customers and
staff in the Council’s Digital Strategy (Please refer to attachment)

5) Does the local authority have a target to reduce their carbon footprint

The Authority has a target of 3% per year (set by The Welsh Government
under “One Wales: One  Planet”)

- if so what is the current progress? - Compared to our base year 2013,
the Authority has made a total reduction of 24%

If you are unhappy with the way your request for information has been
handled, you can request a review of the Council’s response.  If you wish
to exercise this right, please set out in writing your grounds and send
your appeal to Mrs Julie Llewellyn. She may be reached at
[1][email address] or at RCT CBC, Pavilions, Clydach Vale,
Tonypandy, CF40 2XX.

Additionally you may, if you wish, find out more about the Freedom of
Information Act & Environmental Information Regulations from the
