Paper costs and carbon footprint reduction targets
Dear Powys County Council,
I am currently compiling data on the cost to both the environment and expenditure on the use of paper.
I would be grateful if you can give me information on the following:
1) The total amount of reams of paper used by the authority in the last 12 months
2) The amount of expenditure on printing, photocopying, and consumables for internal purposes. We are not interested in the amount of expenditure for printing of publications for external use.
3) The amount of recycling of paper from your offices.
4) Does the local authority have a target to reduce the use of paper - if so what is the current progress?
5) Does the local authority have a target to reduce their carbon footprint - if so what is the current progress?
Yours faithfully,
A R Shaw

Dear Mr Shaw
Thank you for your request for information dated 29/01/2018 concerning
Paper Costs
This is to inform you that your request has been considered and I can
provide the following response:
The Request:
I am currently compiling data on the cost to both the environment and
expenditure on the use of paper.
I would be grateful if you can give me information on the following:
1) The total amount of reams of paper used by the authority in the last
12 months
Purchase of paper from our contracted supplier over the last 12 months is
10,967 reams. This covers reams of all types, colours, and sizes of
paper, but not that purchased by Schools. This does not take into account
opening and closing stock levels.
2) The amount of expenditure on printing, photocopying, and consumables
for internal purposes. We are not interested in the amount of expenditure
for printing of publications for external use.
Powys County Council has no mechanism in place to ascertain or record the
purpose of using the printers/photocopiers nor do we have any records of
internal versus external use.
Under Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act a public authority is
required to inform you
1 (a) whether the information requested is held by the public authority,
and
(b) to have that information communicated if that is the case.
In this case the information requested is not held.
3) The amount of recycling of paper from your offices.
Powys County Council do not record the weight collected per site so
there’s no way of ascertaining how much paper was produced at our offices.

and
(b) to have that information communicated if that is the case.
