Paediatric usage of Buccolam for pre-med/diagnostic use

North Bristol NHS Trust did not have the information requested.

Dear North Bristol NHS Trust,

I write to you to request information to answer the below questions:

What number of Buccolam syringes were administered to paediatric patients for the purposes of sedation pre procedures over the last 12 months of data you hold (please provide details of what this date range is).

What number of Buccolam syringes were administered to paediatric patients for the purposes of treating epilepsy over the last 12 months of data you hold (please provide details of what this date range is).

If a specific purpose is not discernible please could I request the number of syringes administered to all paediatric patients. If the number of syringes is not possible but the number of paediatric patients that received Buccolam is, then again this information would also be gratefully received.

Yours faithfully,

Ed Fryer

Freedom of Information, North Bristol NHS Trust

Dear Mr Fryer

Thank you for your request for information under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. We confirm receipt of your request.

Whilst the FOI Team may be able to log and respond to these requests, our front-line staff; Procurement, IT, Information Management, Infection Control and Recruitment (who are our main recipients of FOI request) are under considerable strain.

Due to the unprecedented challenges the NHS is facing in response to Covid-19 and now the mass vaccination programme, we are going to struggle to respond to your request for the foreseeable future.

The Information Commissioner has also recognised the scale of the challenge facing the NHS, and its impact on the ability to respond to requests for information.

If you would like us to formally log your request, please reply to this e-mail and we will contact you when we are in a position to respond.

If we do not receive a response within 14 days, we will assume your information request is no longer required.

However, please note that NBT has very limited Paediatric Services and therefore your request might be better answered by contacting the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (link below), but again they may possibly be in the same situation as all NHS organisations currently.
