PACE 1984 Conditions

The request was partially successful.

Dear Post Office Limited,
The NFSP website contains this information".A further limiting factor was that many investigation interviews involving PO and subpostmasters were carried out under Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 PACE conditions. Where this was the case, NFSP representatives were only able to attend in a supporting capacity, which reduced their ability to defend the affected subpostmaster. The NFSP has seen this issue cited on social media as evidence that the NFSP did not support members during dispute interviews – but under PACE conditions, NFSP representatives could do very little during an interview." Can you confirm that POL'S investigators were bound to adhere to the same standards as Police Officers when carrying out these Investigation Interviews? Can you confirm that your investigators did not tell accompanying representatives that they could not speak in the Interview itself? How many PACE interviews were conducted and how many through other means?

Yours faithfully,

john o'sullivan

Dear [email address],
Thank you for a reply.Surely the answers to questions 1 and 2 is Yes or No and as such involve no cost to yourselves just a recognition of what policy or procedure was used in interviews(and presumably still is?)I except question 3 could be expensive and will abondon that line of thought.Incidentally and feel free to treat this as a new query,Since 2014 to 2020 How many FOI requests were turned down on cost grounds and how many in the past year and a half?

Yours sincerely,

john o'sullivan
