Dear Ms McLuckie,

Thank you for your information request of 7 May 2019.  Aberdeen City
Council (ACC) has completed the necessary search for the information
requested. Our response is now detailed below.

1)      The total number of requests received to date for the Council to
provide discretionary funding for a further year of early learning and
childcare for children whose fifth birthdays will fall between the day
after the school start date in August 2019 and 31st Dec 2019.

There have been 44 requests to defer entry for children with these dates
of birth, for 2019/20.

2)      A breakdown of the total number in 1. above by requests for

 a. continued funding in a private/voluntary setting and
 b. continued funding in a council run setting.

Total 44:

Local Authority Continuer                    37

Funded Provider Continuer                 6

We have one child who is currently attending a Funded Provider, who
applied to have a deferred year in Local Authority setting. Therefore, not
a continuer as changed settings. This request was approved.

3)      In relation to question 2, please provide the number of places the
Council has agreed to provide continued funding for in a)
private/voluntary settings and b) council run settings.

Local Authority         38

Funded Provider       6

4)      For each year from 2013-2014 till 2018-2019 inclusive, please
provide the total number of places at council-run settings which parents
were permitted to self-finance.

Aberdeen City Council does not currently offer wrap-around provision over
and above the current 600 hours per annum Early Learning and Childcare
entitlement, therefore parents are not required to self-finance as the
entitlement is free at the point of delivery.

If an application to defer has been refused, the parent can choose to
self-finance at a Private Early Learning and Childcare setting, e.g.
private nursery

ACC is unable to provide you with information on the total number of
places at council-run settings which parents were permitted to
self-finance as it is not held by ACC.  In order to comply with its
obligations under the terms of Section 17 of the FOISA, ACC hereby gives
notice that this information is not held by it.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE HANDLING OF YOUR REQUEST

ACC handled your request for information in accordance with the provisions
of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. Please refer to the
attached PDF for more information about your rights under FOISA.

We hope this helps with your request.

Yours sincerely,
