Oyster on Apple/Google Wallet feasibility

Transport for London did not have the information requested.

Dear Transport for London,

I’d like to request some information under FOI as an extension to Request ID FOI-0083-2223 which was published by TfL in its FOI disclosure log: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/transparenc...

I understand from this previous request that TfL stated “The existing Oyster system is now more than 15 years old, which limits our ability to make substantial changes. However, TfL plans to develop Oyster to enable it to be based on more up-to-date technologies”. This may imply that TfL has carried out feasibility studies on how Oyster cards can be natively integrated into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. I’d like to understand what the technical limitations are and what technology upgrades have been assessed to allow for this functionality in the future.

Therefore, I would request for:

- Any papers or feasibility studies done for adding Oyster to Apple/Google Wallet
- Any Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) if carried out for the same
- Any technical diagrams, open source code, or other technical artefacts on this (if not already included above).

Naturally I understand as this relates to future functionality and third-party companies, there may be redactions necessary in such documents if they exist. Reasonable redactions are perfectly fine as long TfL is able to disclose the documents otherwise.

Please let me know if you need any clarifications.

Yours faithfully,
Ankur Banerjee
