Dear Mr Gibbons,

Freedom of Information Act 2000 Acknowledgement

Thank you for your communication of 27th January which has been passed to
HMRC's Freedom of Information Team.

We have allocated the above reference which you should quote if you need
to contact us.

The Team will arrange for a reply to be sent to you which will either
comply with HMRC's obligations under Freedom of Information Act or, if we
think it's an enquiry that we don't need to address under the terms of the
Act, let you know why. If it is the latter we will, if possible, pass it
on to a more appropriate part of the Department for answer.

As you will appreciate, the coronavirus pandemic has provided
unprecedented challenges for Government Departments including HMRC. Over
the coming weeks our priorities are to provide critical existing and new
Public Services for Government to support customers during this difficult
time. As a result, resources may be diverted away from usual compliance or
information rights work. HMRC aims to respond to all FOIA Requests within
20 working days. If for whatever reason this timescale cannot be complied
with HMRC will, where possible, write to you explaining the reason for the
delay and providing an estimated time for response.

Yours sincerely

Please find attached our response to your information request.

Yours sincerely,

HMRC Freedom of Information Team

Dear FOI Team,

Thank you for your response of 29 January 2020.

I have submitted the same question to Oxford City Council and they replied detailing the number of employees furloughed each month and Government money received in furlough payments each month.

I believe the information supplied by Oxford City Council is incorrect.

If HMRC is unwilling to provide the requested information is there any way that the information supplied by Oxford City Council can be verified?

Yours sincerely,

Jimmy Gibbons

HM Revenue and Customs

Dear Jimmy,

Unfortunately, we're unable to verify any information supplied by Oxford City Council. If you believe the information provided to you is incorrect, I would suggest you share your concerns with the council.

Thank you,

Dear HM Revenue and Customs,

Can you explain why Oxford City Council was able to provide the information originally requested, yet HMRC was not?

Yours faithfully,

Jimmy Gibbons

HM Revenue and Customs

Dear Jimmy,

We cannot release information about other organisations - our duty of confidentiality under the Commissioners for Revenue and Customs Act 2005 explains this.

A council can choose to release its own information, much like we can answer a question about employees furloughed by HMRC or amounts claimed by HMRC.

Thank you,

Harjit
