Dear Haringey Borough Council,
The ilse amlot centre, somerford grove, tottenham N17 (formerly Northumberland park women and children centre) was built around 1986 with a grant to northumberland park voluntary group from the GLC on LBH land for which £600 pa (peppercorn) rent is paid.
As the grant was given to the group to build a centre for the primary use of the community it was owned, managed and maintained by the charity trustees .
Lease for land expired approx 2 years ago -who now owns the building?
Can we request a copy of the original lease agreement.

Yours faithfully,

Sam Leggatt

Dear Sam Leggatt

Your email has been forwarded to me to provide a response.

There are two expired leases for the Ilse Amlot Centre, both have expired.

The Council charges £50 to provide a copy of a Lease. If you wish to obtain copies, this charge will be applicable. Once you have paid, we will review the lease and delete any commercially sensitive information and then forward the copy leases to you.

However, I can confirm as per terms of the Lease, LB Haringey owns the building.

Thank you.

Regards
Shehnaz

1. Haringey Council ought to consider abandoning the flawed formula, "X would like to recall Y", where X is the council or a council employee and Y is an email sent to a member of the public.

It makes no sense, as emails sent beyond the council walls cannot be retrieved or deleted. The impression given is that the council would rather appear foolish than to admit an email was sent in error or a mistake has been made. This serves to undermine confidence generally.

2. If a mistake were made, then it may have been to claim that the council charges £50 for a copy of a Lease that even then, may be subject to redaction. Once, after much persistence including an Appeal to the Office of Information Commissioner, I eventually managed to prise lose the [quashed] Lease of Alexandra Palace to Firoka (Alexandra Palace) Ltd. It involved prolonged foot-dragging by the council, it was redacted for financial data, but no charge was made).

You may be able to obtain a copy of the lease direct from the Land Registry, for a fee of £7 (not £50!). Apparently unless you have a business account you have to use a paper form:-
