Overseas trips
Dear Powys County Council,
This is a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act and relates to overseas trips.
From June 2016 to the day this request is processed, I would like to know the number of overseas trips councillors, members of the management team (including the chief executive), and council officers have taken in the course of conducting council business. For each overseas trip, please provide the following information:
- The date and duration of the overseas trip, as well as the country/city that was visited
- The full name, title and position of the councillor/member of management team/council officer who went on the overseas trip
- The reason or reasons why the councillor/member of management team/council officer went on the overseas trip
- The cost of the overseas trip (please provide a breakdown of travel costs, accommodation costs and expenses etc.)
- Please state whether the council met the costs of the overseas trip, or whether an individual, group, company, consortium, charity or another organisation met the costs.
- Please provide the full name of the individual, group, company, charity or organisation that met the costs. If it is a group or consortium, please state who or what composes the group or consortium.
I would like to receive the information electronically. If you feel that a substantive response to this request is not possible within a reasonable time frame, or the request is too broad or too vague, I would be grateful if you could contact me and provide assistance as to how I could refine the request. Overseas Travel
The above is a summary of your request. The full details of the
information sought is provided to the officer to whom the request is
tasked.
Please note with the time frame given for the data you have requested, we
refer back to a previous FOI F2017-0791-Overseas Travel provided to
yourself. This Holds the data you are requesting for a large portion of
the time frame given, therefore we shall be processing your FOI request
but limiting the timeframe to be between 14/07/2017 – 27/07/2018.
Your request will now be considered and you will receive a response within
the statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Act, subject
to the information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third
party. In some circumstances Powys County Council may be unable to achieve
this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed and given a revised
time-scale at the earliest opportunity.
There may be a fee payable for the retrieval, collation and provision of
the information you request. If this is the case you will be informed and
the 20 working day timescale will be suspended until we receive payment
from you. If you choose not to make a payment then your request will
remain unanswered.
Some requests may also require either full or partial transference to
another public authority in order to answer your query in the fullest
possible way. Again, you will be informed if this is the case.
The due date for responding to this request for information is 24/08/2018.

The Request:
This is a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act and
relates to overseas trips.
- From 14/07/2017 -27/07/2018, I would like to know the number of
overseas trips councillors, members of the management team (including the
chief executive), and council officers have taken in the course of
conducting council business.
- We use the definition of ‘overseas’ from the dictionary which
states “across or beyond sea; places of across sea; foreign”
1 trip to Johannesburg
For each overseas trip, please provide the following information:
- The date and duration of the overseas trip, as well as the
country/city that was visited
Wednesday 7^th February flew to Johannesburg and returned to the UK on
Sunday 18^th February
- The full name, title and position of the councillor/member of
management team/council officer who went on the overseas trip
Senior Museum Curator visited Johannesburg
- The reason or reasons why the councillor/member of management
team/council officer went on the overseas trip

· The trip to Johannesburg was a research trip visiting a number
of South African museums in relation to a planned exhibition at Powysland
Museum on the Zulu and Boer Wars and their local connections.
- The cost of the overseas trip (please provide a breakdown of
travel costs, accommodation costs and expenses etc.)

- Please state whether the council met the costs of the overseas

· The trip to Johannesburg was met by two grants from the Art Fund
(the Jonathan Ruffer Curatorial Fund) and ICOM (International Council of
Museums), the curator used their holiday entitlement and Powys County
Council didn’t contribute towards the trip.
- Please provide the full name of the individual, group, company,
charity or organisation that met the costs. If it is a group or
consortium, please state who or what composes the group or consortium.

We regret the delay you have experienced with this request. We acknowledge
that Powys County Council has failed in its obligation under the Freedom
of Information Act 2000, to provide you with a response to your request
