Dear Staffordshire Police,

I have noticed that the police think itself above the law when dealing with FOI requests. Please explain why you have not met the response date that applies to most other bodies.

Dear Mr Robert

Your request is being dealt with and the delay is due to public interest

Where a qualified exemption is being considered/applied, we may 'stop the
clock' and extend the deadline for consideration of public interest
factors for a time which is reasonable in the circumstances.

A response will be sent to you as soon as complete.  Once again apologies
for the delay.

Dear Staffordshire Police,
my understanding is that you are allowed a further 20 days to reply and that there has to be evidence that the piblic interest is not served by disclosure of the requested information. How on earth can the information requested be not in the oublic interest? It may appear to the public that you are hiding something should you hide behind this public interest test. And of course, should you decide to take this route, it may be something that the press may be willing to take up and investigate.

Yours faithfully,

Mr occupier

This seems to be a perfectly reasonable request and very much in the public interest - why is there such a delay in replying?

Dear Staffordshire Police,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Staffordshire Police's handling of my FOI request 'Outcome of arrests for child sex offences in may 2012'.

The time limits have been exceeded and Staffordshire police seem to be avoiding the provision of this information on very tenuous grounds

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/o...

If The Sentinel obtained some of the information surely Staffordshire Police should at least be able to answer the first part of your request - well worth seeking an Internal Review on that element or referring on to the Information Commissioner if you have no joy.

I do find it alarming that information which ought to be available and in the public interest just isn't within cost limits - do they deliberately not record such information in order to avoid having to disclose it?
