Out-of-catchment related admission questions for Beaconsfield High School
Dear Beaconsfield High School,
We have few simple questions and hope you would be able to provide us the required information.
If a child is residing in Slough, Berkshire and interested in seeking admission in Beaconsfield High School then as per our information, it is must for the child to qualify the Bucks Grammar School Selective Admission Test with minimum score of 121.
Assuming the child continues to reside in Slough after 31st Oct 2022 and has score more than 121 in Bucks Selective Admission Test -
a. Could it be still possible for the child to secure the place in your school under out of catchment criteria (based on past data, it seems possible to us but please correct us if required)?
b. If the child could not move inside the catchment area by 31st Oct 2022 but is ready to move in the catchment area of your school post 31st Oct 2022 then is there any cut-off date to complete such move?
c. The distance considered for admission to your school is it as-the-crow-flies or actual-distance-by-road?
d. Based on past year admissions, could you also please advice how many girls managed to secure place in your school by moving to the school catchment area post 31st Oct 2021? And what was the farthest distance (from their place of residence to school)?
Yours faithfully,
Abhijit
Dear Abhijit
Thank you for your email. The answers to your questions are below:
a. Could it be still possible for the child to secure the place in your
school under out of catchment criteria (based on past data, it seems
possible to us but please correct us if required)?
Students living outside the catchment area have been allocated places in
previous years. We cannot predict whether this will happen in the future
as it will be dependent on the number of in catchment applications
received and the oversubscription criteria applied to the allocation of
places. For example only applicants in catchment were offered a place for
September 2022 - indeed not all students in the catchment area were
successful in the first round of allocations in March 2022.
b. If the child could not move inside the catchment area by 31st Oct 2022
but is ready to move in the catchment area of your school post 31st Oct
2022 then is there any cut-off date to complete such move?
You would be considered for later allocation rounds e.g 1st April, 1st
May, 1st June and so forth, however again it would be unlikely that a
place could be offered at this late stage.
c. The distance considered for admission to your school is it
as-the-crow-flies or actual-distance-by-road?
Extract from school admissions policy as follows:-
Definition of ‘home to school distance’ A straight line distance is used
for admission purposes. This is the distance from a student’s Normal Home
Address, as set out by Ordnance Survey, to the nearest open school gate
available for students to use. A computerised system is used to measure
straight line distance. The point measured to at the student’s address as
determined by the Ordnance Survey ADDRESSPOINT which is an Ordnance Survey
data product that provides a National Grid coordinate and a unique
reference for each postal address in Great Britain that is on the Royal
Mail’s Post Office Address File. APPE
d. Based on past year admissions, could you also please advice how many
girls managed to secure place in your school by moving to the school
catchment area post 31st Oct 2021? And what was the farthest distance
(from their place of residence to school)?
No places were offered to those who moved post 31 October 2021.
