· Please could you also provide me with information on how funding
is sourced and allocated by the Trust for training and continued
professional development (CPD) of clinical staff (medical and
nursing/allied health professionals) of different departments.
Postgraduate funding for doctors in training comes to the Trust through
the regional Learning and Development Agreement (LDA) with Health
Education England (HEE). There is a fixed placement rate which includes
infrastructure costs and agreed study leave (time and finance) allowances
for a doctor’s education in speciality. These are managed on behalf of the
Trust / HEE by the Postgraduate Medical Education team and are based on
national agreements.
Undergraduate medical student funds are also included in the LDA from HEE.
This again includes a placement rate and infrastructure support and is
managed by the HYMS Student Liaison team.
Non training doctors e.g. permanently employed staff grades, consultants
etc. all have study leave (time and funding) included as part of their job
plan / contract for CPD. Funding comes directly from the Trust.
For provision of training and equipment outside of the set School
curricula, the education teams can occasionally bid against HEE financial
‘pots’ if they become available, but these are non-recurrent so can’t be
relied on for on-going education.
Funding for professional registration education & training of nursing and
AHPs is currently through HEE student bursaries and regional HEYH
commissioning of HEI student places
Regionally agreed CPD is currently made available via HEYH SSPRD funding,
whereby HEIs are commissioned to deliver post-registration and specialist
programmes/courses that Trust non-medical clinical staff, including
non-registered staff, can access if appropriate to role, service and
existing qualifications
Existing/newly appointed HCAs/GSWs/AHP Assistants, currently commence a
QCF Level 2 or 3 Diploma where appropriate to role, service and existing
qualifications, funded through SSLDF on registration to the qualification.
We hope that this information will be of use to you. If you have any
queries regarding this email, please contact this office, quoting the
reference number above.
Yours sincerely,
Andy Thompson
