Dear L Hewitt
Re: Information request
Thank you for your request dated 20th December 2016 for information from NHS
Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) regarding organ donation in Wales.
I am writing to advise you that we are able to provide you with the following
information in response to your request.
I would like to know as of December 1st, 2016  how many people living in
Wales have chosen to opt out of the Welsh organ donor scheme.

There were 172,109 opt-out registrations recorded prior to the 1st December 2016.
The latest available figures (11th January 2017) show that there have been 173,082
decisions to opt-out registered in Wales.
I would also like to know how many organ donations have been carried out
from December 1st, 2015 to December 1st, 2016 where organs have been
donated from donors who "chose to do nothing" and had therefore not opted
in or out.

From 1st December 2015 to 30th November 2016, of the donors where deemed
consent applied, a total of 15 donor families agreed to organ donation. These 15
donors donated 53 organs in total.
