Oral Questions Tabled but not Answered at Full Council

The request was partially successful.

During Cambridge City Council's Full Council meeting on Thursday the 23rd of April 2009 a number of oral questions to Executive Councillors which were submitted did not get answered due to the time limit for that section of the meeting being reached.

The mayor stated that written answers would be provided to those questions which there was not time to answer orally.

I would like to request a copy of those written answers.

I would like to suggest that questions and answers for all oral and written questions tabled at Full Council meetings could usefully be placed on the council's website.

Cambridge City Council allows councillors to ask the executive both oral and written questions at full council meetings.

The written Q&A is made available on paper at the meetings, but is not routinely published online.

The oral questions are published on paper at the meetings and are included in the minutes. The answers to oral questions are however not minuted.

Written replies are sought to oral questions which there is not time to ask. I expect council officers will be copied on these so that they can confirm they have been answered and it will therefore be possible for the council to release them.

I have previously suggested, and have suggested again, that all questions and answers could be published on the council's website.

Dear Mr Taylor

Officers are to review the Council's Oral and Written Questions schemes as set out in the Constitution. Providing a written answer to an oral question is not the intention of the Oral Questions scheme - it is more intended to be like Prime Ministers Questions.
However its clear that the Oral Questions and the Written Questions (with answers) should be published on the website before the meeting of the Council and we will put this into practice.
On this occasion before releasing the Oral Question answers to you it would be courteous for me to advise the members concerned.
Thank you for bringing this anomaly to our attention.
